Ross Loveday was born in Bargoed, South Wales. He studied optometry at Cardiff University and is a self-taught painter and printmaker.
His interpretations of landscape have won him many prizes in recent years. He won first prize in the prestigious Laing Landscape Award and the picture that won him first prize in the Discerning Eye Award is now in the private collection of HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2008, a painting selected for the Royal Painters in Watercolours exhibition at the Mall Gallery was awarded the St Cuthberts Mill prize.
More recently, he has turned his hand to drypoint and carborundum printmaking - and with equal success, as 2008 brought him the Julian Trevelyan award at the 'Originals 08' Print Exhibition.
'I try to capture the atmosphere of the British landscape ... I hope to convey the feelings of the place and not its description."
