Ann Rowe trained in fine art at Coventry and the University of Leeds. She taught art for several years in England before becoming increasingly interested in ceramics. She practised and taught painting and ceramics in Canada, France and Switzerland before settling in Wales in the early '80s.
Her absorption with drawing, painting and potting continues, her work now echoing her response to the natural world about her in rural West Wales.
She uses heavily grogged stoneware clay for big textured forms, and a smooth stoneware or earthenware for wheel-thrown work. The big textured forms may be assembled from a combination of slabs, coils and wheel-thrown sections, all of which may in turn be carved or incised and decorated with coloured slips.
