Simon works in wood, metal and other materials he finds around him.
His sculptures describe the natural and manmade elements, forces and patterns in the landscape - a synthesis of where these meet, clash or unify.
He is influenced by places where nature holds a memory of man - laid hedges, sea defences, harbours, boundaries, disused railway lines - and by man's engineered devices to steer or harness elemental forces, where nature submits to man's hand for a moment, then turns and moves on.
