"Having spent most of my life working as a visual journalist, covering, designing and illustrating the news, I step away from the computer whenever I can to create with my hands. As well, returning to Pembrokeshire has rekindled my love of interpreting what's particular to my special spots on Earth.

"My original prints are made in the gyotaku method - 'gyo' meaning fish and 'taku' meaning rubbing - a form of Japanese printing dating from the mid-1800s. I work in two methods to achieve opposite and unique results; a soft and ethereal print, using wet paper, and a more detailed and textural print, using dry paper.  Gyotaku monoprinting is a stimulating method of creating art. The artist may conceive and direct the desired result, but the outcome is always unpredictable and surprising. And the type of fish chosen plays an important role in the character of the print."

Deborah works as a printmaker, designer and illustrator from her Cheese + Pickles Studio, St Davids, and is a community artist for Learning Pembrokeshire lecturing in printmaking, colour and design, and conceptual illustration.
