| Professor Maurice Cockrill RA PRCA |
|
Born in Hartlepool in 1936, Maurice Cockrill studied fine art at Wrexham and at Reading University. He has exhibited internationally for thirty years and has studios in London and North Wales.
He has been described as one of the most protean painters to emerge in the second half of the 20th century. His commitment to painting, with the notion that skill and hard work are as vital an element in his work as any, puts him at odds with the current avant garde who prefer installations and film. This is not to say he remains trapped in a particular style or idiom; conversely, he is able to continually push the limit of what paint can do and what he can achieve.
Maurice Cockrill was elected to the Royal Academy in 1999 and appointed Keeper of the Schools in 2004. He is President of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
July 2010: we hope to have more work later this season.
