Since graduating in Jewellery Design in 1985, Diane’s work has progressed through one-off pieces in sheet pewter and multi-media to a range of functional dishes, bowls and goblets, napkin rings and mirrors in cast pewter. Metalworking suits her thought and working processes, and pewter in particular satisfies her need for “instant results”. The pieces are cast in two-part silicon rubber moulds, then soldered together and finished by hand. The forms and decoration of Diane’s work are influenced by travel and architecture – the “spirit of place”.

Alongside her functional pewterware, Diane continues to make jewellery in both pewter and sterling silver.  Her earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets are on display in the gallery.

About pewter: The pewter which Diane works in is a lead-free alloy, composed of approximately 98% tin. It will not corrode, is safe to drink from and use for foodstuffs. It can be washed in warm water and washing up liquid, but must not be placed in a dishwasher or microwave.
