“In some works it is a physical moment that I wish to recall. In others it is a relationship; the parent as the landscape which the child inhabits; the world as a shared experience of older people who also remember their youthful exuberance.
“The human body delights me. I notice gestures and relationships. I am moved by the pleasure of being alive, by the life of the thrown shadow, by the energy of the happy creature, wholly aware.
“A bushman in Botswana explained: ‘When we hunt our bodies are happy’ and, speaking about the trance dance, ‘Healing makes our hearts happy.’ This happiness is in my mind when I work.
“I sculpt in mixed media, modelling in resins on wire armatures which may be combined with found objects of significance to me.”
Polly’s work is in the Museum of Modern Art, Wales and in collections in Japan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Switzerland, USA and the UK.
